Colombia is a country of natural wonders. From the wild, beautiful beaches of Tayrona National Park where the Caribbean meets the Amazon, to dense rainforest, volcanoes and dramatic valleys, it leaves a lifelong impression.
Active travellers will find much to enjoy here — from hiking and festivals, to exploring the country’s famous coffee plantations.
Wildlife is king: when venturing into Colombia’s national parks and wilderness areas, keep your eyes peeled for anteaters, sloths, tapirs, spectacled bears, and even jaguars. Head for the Pacific coast and you can also spot migrating humpback whales.

Colombia’s cities are lively and historic — each one a must-see. Start in the capital, Bogota, and soak up the colonial-era charm, bustling restaurants and shops, and compelling street art. Be sure to explore Cartagena, on the Caribbean coast, renowned for its vibrant Old Town and nearby first free town, San Basilio de Palenque. Visit burgeoning Medellin during its annual Flower Festival (in August), too.
Beyond the cities, there are opportunities galore to immerse yourself in Colombia’s natural beauty: you can hike and swim in the coastal Tayrona National Park; discover the Central Andes’ coffee-growing region (also known for its snow-capped peaks, ice sheets and forests); and go trekking through Cocora Valley’s spectacular cloud forests. For a touch of relaxation, be sure to take a mud bath at Totumo Volcano.
Being so close to the equator, the weather here is fairly settled all year round. However, to make the most of your Colombia holiday, December-March, July and August are the best months to visit, with the least amount of rain.
